Community Talks! Vol. 1, ep. 20.

Might be a little late on the agenda, but who doesn’t love a last-minute change of plans?

In this week’s article I will give you some tips on some good events happening this summer in my home-country, Hungary.

After two long years of the pandemic, festivals are back in business this summer. I am sure some of us already bought our tickets and are eager to jump into our festival boots, put on the sparkly fake tattoos (oh wait a minute...that might be so 2019...someone should write an article about what is this years must have styles at a festival?? ) and hit the road to an unforgettable crazy day/week of partying and enjoying music to the fullest.

 Here in Sweden, festivals are already happening every week and there are more to come with famous artists such as Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine, Imagine Dragons, Post Malone and so on. Wednesday, when I was heading towards the Swedish Radio House, the tram and bus station at T-Centralen was already propped with a festival crowd amount of people waiting to get to Gröna Lund to see Korn playing. The view really gave me the feeling of a Déjà vu and put me back to the good old festival times in Budapest. And with that, let me get to this week’s agenda.
Let’s talk about the most famous festivals in Hungary.

My favourite one is called Balaton Sound (29th June - 2nd July), which takes place at Hungary’s biggest lake called Balaton.

Balaton Sound hosts artist from the whole wide world in mostly electronic music this year. In the party tents, you can usually enjoy more house and techno parties while this year the big stage hosts performers like Marshmello, Robin Schulz, Timmy Trumpet or Paul Kalkbrenner. Most of the stages are located only a few steps away from the lake. During the day you can take a swim and enjoy some concerts from the water. When summer gets really hot and it is above 32 degrees, trust me it is the best way to enjoy the day. You can find more information about this one via this link: Click here

The other festival, probably more famous than Balaton Sound is Sziget festival( 10-15^th of August) , which takes place in Budapest on an island close to the city centre (Sziget actually means island in Hungarian).

 This one is about a weeklong and is usually crowded with people from all over the world. The island has huge capacities, and it takes about one hour to walk through the whole festival area. Artists from the whole wide world perform across 60 stages.
This year’s line-up is pretty impressive. The main stages will host Justin Bieber, Calvin Harris, Bastille, Steve Aoki, Dua Lipa, Lewis Capaldi and the list continues. Among the 60 stages, some locations are dedicated to art and dancing performances, so there is really something for every visitor to spend the early hours of the day with. You can of course stay in the city and take a direct HÈV line (HÈV is basically a mixture of tram and train, which goes to suburban areas) to the festival or also pitch a tent and enjoy the whole package deal.

It is definitely an unforgettable experience to visit a festival no matter where it is. But I think it is extra special to aim for a festival in a new country we want to explore. It is the excitement of exploring some new locations, meeting new people and getting an insight into the culture of the locals and in this case eat real Goulash and drink a lot of Pálinka ( snaps).
