Community Talks! Vol. 1, ep. 14.
As the pandemic is almost a memory away (at least when looking at the ques to get a passport), a trip to Italy, Greece or Spain might be intriguing. And don’t get me wrong, I love traveling and exploring new places. But one good thing that the pandemic brought with it is to explore what is just outside your door. There are many ways to discover your surroundings and I would like to challenge you all to do so by sleeping more in nature. Rather than sleeping in a tent where you will wake up around 5 a.m. (because of the heat), I would recommend sleeping in a hammock instead!
As spring is here—in Sweden at least-- and summer is on its way, now is the perfect time to really enjoy the outdoors. What better way to do so than to go out and find two trees to hang your hammock on and spend the night? And the best part – ITS FREE. (You need to buy a hammock, but it’s a onetime cost and then you have a lifetime of free nature hotels)
One of my favorite vacations was when me and some friends packed our hammocks and camping stove in the car and drove to Sweden’s east coast. Every day was a new place to spend the night—in the forest, by the sea, close to a city, or far away from the city. Making tacos on the camping stove by the ocean and after that falling asleep under the stars. And when waking up, you can almost jump straight from your hammock into the ocean. If this doesn’t sound tempting, I don’t know what will.
So, for you first night out with a hammock, here is some PRO TIPS:
- Make sure to bring a sleeping pad that you can put in your hammock, otherwise the chances are that you will wake up and be a banana the next morning.
- By a hammock with a mosquito net!! At least if you sleep in Sweden during the summer. If not – bring mosquito spray!!
- Bring a headlamp. If you are going to get into your hammock when it’s dark, this is very nice to have.
- Watch this video to get a tutorial on how to get in your hammock - YouTube
What are you waiting for? Go out and enjoy your night in a hammock, but don’t forget to check the weather apps before 😉 and please let me know if you have any good locations around Stockholm that I should try!

Sounds amazing, I can only add one bit to make this the best trip ever.
Place that hammock, stove, and camping gear into the panniers of your favorite motorcycle and then set out on your epic adventure!

I must admit I have never gone camping! But your experiences have inspired me to think about it and maybe buy a hammock for this summer and sleep at least once under the stars 💫

My preference is a sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and tent. But, I live in Tennessee USA and you never know what the weather might do.
I have slept in a hammock before, my experience was the "Wake up and be a banana", but I have not tried a hammock with a sleeping pad, I will try that.
