Community Talks! Vol. 1, ep. 10.
In the world of mass production sometimes you need a breath of fresh air. Here is an idea for a DIY project for the weekend – customize your clothes to make them special and one of a kind!
You can customize almost anything: shoes (leather and fabric), t-shirts, caps, hats, socks, bags, etc. Here are some examples from the Internet:
I and my brother loved to watch the Simpsons when we were kids. I made this black canvas grocery shopping bag (see below) with Mr. Burns as a small gift for him. The drawing itself doesn’t take so much time (1-2 hours). Finding the idea does, though. That’s why I usually draw some characters from my favorite cartoons.
Customization is a well-known trend that has become more and more popular. Nowadays, there are different platforms where you can buy unique, hand-made or vintage products. Have you ever bought or created one?
Why to customize:
- It is a fun experience with tangible results
- You get a personalized, durable, and unique item that you will love
- It reflects your style, or it can be a great and memorable gift
- It is sustainable – you can buy fewer new clothes
What you need:
- Carbon paper for tracing
- Acrylic Fabric paint
- Brushes
- Varnish spray to seal the acrylic paint
Now you are ready to give life to your amazing ideas! What’s your next DIY project?

Hi Irina Kuzennaya!
Thanks for sharing! I believe we can always be creative and this is a great idea to give life again to some garments we have in our closet and haven't used in a while. But more than that, I believe it is about showing the world your identity through art and creating unique pieces.
