This article explains what Content Segmentation is and provides a list of use cases.
About content segmentation
Content Segmentation is an optional functionality that can be activated in inriver. It is a feature that makes content of your choice available only to certain users.
When Content Segmentation is activated, it's activated for all of the entities and users are given access to one or more segments. The user is assigned to a separate role in each accessed segment.

Usage examples
Content Segmentation can be applied in many different ways. Here are a few examples:
Multiple brands
When a company has multiple brands that all use the same elastic data model, extensions, and global settings, and the company wants to separate the content in inriver based on which brand the content belongs to. To achieve this, the company wants certain users to only access content for one brand while giving other users permission to access the content of more than one brand, perhaps even all available brands.
Global and local product assortments
When a company has a global product assortment as well as different local product assortments depending on the market, the company wants local sales organizations to be able to view what’s in the global product assortment but they don’t want them to edit the content. The company also wants the local sales organizations to be able to create and manage their own market-specific products without accessing the products of other local sales organizations.
R&D - planned products
When an R&D department wants to access and edit information about products that are in various stages of development but have not yet been announced or released to a market. The researchers don’t want everyone in the organization to access the information about planned products. When a product is no longer being developed it should be set to active and become visible to everyone within the organization.
Archive - old products
When a company wants older products that have reached the end of their life cycle to be archived and no longer visible to all users within the organization.
