This article gives you an overview of the inriver Excel import feature.
About excel exports and imports
inriver uses Microsoft Excel as a tool for mass updating entities and export data to and import data from Excel. You export all or selected entities in a work area to Excel and you can later import the same Excel document after changing the content.
Since Excel is a widely known and used tool to sort, structure, analyze, and manipulate large amounts of data, entities can easily be mass updated in Excel.
When working with Excel documents, there are some restrictions on which changes you can make and still be able to import the content of the file back into inriver. To get the right format, we recommend that you start by exporting an Excel file, make any changes or additions to that file before reimporting the file.

The Excel import feature is found in the top-row navigation menu in Enrich. When importing, you must map your Excel columns to FieldTypes and validate your data.

Excel import: rich client
In the Rich Client, the Excel import feature is found in the group Import in the ribbon. Click the Import button and start by selecting a file.

Good to know
Keep the below advice in mind when using Excel to import new entities:
- To use the Excel import feature, the permission AddEntity must be assigned to your role.
- Start with an exported Excel file.
- Make sure you have data in all mandatory fields.
- Make sure you enter data in all unique fields and that this data is not in conflict with existing entities.
- Make sure there are no duplicated (even hidden) columns in your file.
Sometimes the system won't accept your file. If this is the case, an Error icon is displayed when you try to select your file in the import wizard.
If you've made sure the file is properly formatted and followed the advice in the Good to Know list above, try to check if the Console errors indicate what's wrong. To do that, open up your browser's debugger Console (F12 in Chrome) and check for errors.
Why should the sys_id column be removed? I haven't done that and it seems to me that it is working fine :)

I guess I was experiencing some sort of "change blindness" due to the new UI.
