This article explains how to change the setting USE_LEGACY_IMPORTER to start using the improved Excel import.
About the improved excel import
The import of Excel documents to inriver has been updated with new functionality and performance improvements. The goal of the improvements is to speed up the import process, and provide control over the import process and visibility into the import process.
The improved excel import is available to all customers. It is however not enabled by default in all regions. You can activate the improved Excel import yourself in Control Center by following the below instructions.
Note! To import data using Excel, a user need the default permission AddEntity assigned to their role. Read more about permissions in this article.
To enable the improved excel import
- In Control Center, go to Settings.
- Type "Legacy" in the search field in the Setting column to find the USE_LEGACY_IMPORTER setting in the list.
- Click the Edit link in the USE_LEGACY_IMPORTER setting row.
- Change from true to false.
- Click Save.
Q&A
How do I know the change has taken effect?
When Excel Import is selected in inriver, the improved Excel Import will only have a four-step process, while the legacy Excel Import has five steps.
Do I need to clear any browser cache or log out of inriver for the change to take effect?
No. The setting is read every time the Excel Import process is launched so a user should see the effect immediately.
Good to know
Keep the below advice in mind when using Excel to import new entities:
- To use the Excel import feature, the permission AddEntity must be assigned to your role.
- Start with an exported Excel file.
- Make sure you have data in all mandatory fields.
- Make sure you enter data in all unique fields and that this data is not in conflict with existing entities.
- Make sure there are no duplicated (even hidden) columns in your file.
Troubleshooting
Sometimes the system won't accept your file. If this is the case, an Error icon is displayed when you try to select your file in the import wizard.
If you've made sure the file is properly formatted and followed the advice in the Good to Know list above, try to check if the Console errors indicate what's wrong. To do that, open up your browser's debugger Console (F12 in Chrome) and check for errors.

Per the maintenance release schedule this update won't deploy in production until next week - are we ok to make these changes in Control Center now or should we wait until after deployment?
Hi Jessica, the deploy contains a number of bug fixes and improvements for the Excel Import so better to wait until after deployment.
Thanks Sophie!
Don't for get to add the ability to use the new feature to the appropriate user role(s).
