This article describes how to import data into inriver as a regular user. This process can be used to create products, items or other entities by importing data in inriver.
Note! To import data using Excel, a user need the default permission AddEntity assigned to their role. Read more about permissions in this article.
The improved excel import

To import data using excel
- In the Dashboard > Enrich, select Create new entity > Import data from the top navigation menu.
- Select the file that you want to import and click Next. Approved formats are .xls, .xlsx, and .csv.
- Modify your configuration settings in the Configuration tab and click Next.
- Select the The Entity type to define which fields become available for mapping in the Mappings tab.
- The Show empty columns option allows you to see columns that are empty in the uploaded file when mapping entity fields.
- The Clear empty values option allows you to clear fields with an empty cell in the uploaded file when the import is made.
Note! The Configuration and Mappings steps were previously combined into a single step.
- Set the mappings for the file in the Mappings tab and click Next.
- The listed Entity fields are based on the entity type previously selected in the Configuration tab.
- The File fields are automatically mapped to the corresponding Entity field if recognized by the system.
- In case the file fields aren't automatically mapped, you can map fields manually from the list of entity fields. The entity fields list show both the field id and the field name to make it easier to find a field.
- You can filter the list of fields by searching for a specific text string in the file name or ID.
- Note that if an entity field is set to Read only or Hidden for your role, the mapping of this field will be empty and the field won't be available for selection from the Entity field list.
- In the Validate and import tab, you can select whether to Validate and Import the file or to just Validate it. See detailed information about the options in the Validate and Import Options section below.
- Once you have selected one of the available options, Validate and Import or Validate, you get a confirmation message that the job has started and the progress of the job can be followed.
- The Excel import is now a long-running job that runs in the background.
- For a larger import you can click Close to close the dialog window. You can then follow the import progress under Jobs in the top menu and get access to the result from there.
For a smaller import you can wait for the job to finish to get access to the result immediately.
- Once the import is done, you can download a status report and review the status of each entity in the import file. For more information about the import status report, read this article.
Validate and import options

Hi, When will this update take place?
This update is part of the J release that's being deployed this week (w35). For details on the rollout of the deploy, visit iPMC Service Status.
@... When using the Excel Import, is there any way to ensure the entities are created in the sequence that they are on the spreadsheet. Or are you able to define the logic as to how entities are created?
Hi Chris,
Currently there is no way to enforce this, if this is something that is an important scenario you should add a feature request for this. https://community.inriver.com/hc/en-us/community/topics?topic_category=ideas
The reason for it not being in sequence is performance, processing these in parallel once the data is parsed and validated from the excel file.
I can't find the excel upload tool in the new interface. This example is no longer relevant.
Hi all,
when importing (excel through the UI) and having the language nl-nl available in the config center it seems not to be working to use the Dutch spelling of the CVL options. Validation is giving an error. Setting the UI 'Data' and 'Model' language to Dutch is not working either. The moment I used the English (main language inriver) CVL options, delimited by a semicolon, validation of Excel Import Data approved my input. I searched on community and could not find anything about this, i.e. CVL need the master en-gb language input from import. This is a bit confusing, can this be mentioned somewhere? If I'm overlooking the description/topic about this, please let me know as well.
In general, when selecting the sorting of the comments as in 'Date' or 'Votes', could you add a reverse date option to get the latest comments first, please?

Reinier
